The Effect of the Concentration of Copper Ions on the Unfrozen Water Content in Bentonites Measured with the Use of DSC Method

Studies on changes of unfrozen water content in calcium bentonite from Slovakia, with various concentrations copper ions, were carried out using the method differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). In this study, influence molar concentration copper(II) chloride solution (1 M, 0.5 0.25 0.1 M), used to saturate clay, was analyzed, as well impact ions contained and how affects versus temperature. The results suggest that new mineral phases originate saturated highly concentrated solutions due reaction solutions. These minerals, identified based XRD SEM-EDS (X-ray Diffraction Scanning Electron Microscopy Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy) studies, are atacamite group.
